Diagnostic features
Colonies often macroscopic, comprised of groups of ovoid cells within concentric mucilage envelopes. Numerous small colonies may be enclosed within larger masses of mucilage. Mucilage rings may have a warty appearance. Cells and inner layers of mucilage may be deep red, yellow, or violet. Usually attached to plants or rocks.
Typical habitats
May occur in semi-terrestrial sites subjected to only periodic submersion
