Algal factsheet: Cyanothece (Synechococcaceae)
Diagnostic features
Unicellular (sometimes cells in pairs after division), with no thick mucilaginous envelope. Cells are large and usually bright blue-green, and have a thin mucilaginous margin surrounding them. No chloroplasts or other organelles, but the cell centre often contains round granules or vesicles.
