Diagnosis:
Quite a distinctive species with its orange body.
Characteristics of Oedomopsis include: 1. Body size <10mm; 2. Position of spiracle on Tergite 1 before the centre; 3. Shape of aerolet in forewing pentagonal (open); 4. Colour of face not all black; 5. Metasoma compressed dorsal-ventrally; 6. Size of ocelli small; 7. Length of antennae longer than body; 8. Length of ovipositor distinct but not longer than the body; 9. Wings usually present; 10. Colour of wings hyaline (clear); 11. Sternaulus 0.5x length mesopleuron; 12. Shape of face in lateral view flat or only weakly bulging; 13. Sternite on T1 (viewed laterally) not extending past spiracle; 14. Shape of T1 (viewed laterally) evenly curved; 15. Number of teeth in mandibles 2; 16. Metasoma generally same colour throughout; 17. Length of T1 subequal with T2; 18. Sculpture on mesoscutum finely pitted; 19. Width of T1 uniform; 20. Glymma on T1 present; 21. Sculpture on metasoma pitted, at least on T2; 22. Propodeum short (reaching beyond coxal insertion but not halfway along).

One specimen of this genus was reared from the boneseed leafroller, Tortrix sp. “chrysanthemoides”, at Mangawhai Heads, north of Auckland in 2011. The specimen was sent overseas for identification, and it was determined as an undescribed species of Oedemopsis. A further specimen was collected in Mt Wellington (Auckland) in June 2012, and several more specimens have been collected nearby in Glen Innes in late 2012/early 2013.Sources of information
