Umbonichiton adelus Henderson & Hodgson
Obscure tōtara scale
The species name adelus means "unseen, obscure", because this little scale is well hidden at the base of tōtara leaves, where the petiole twists a 1/4 turn from the stem.
Biology: not much is known about the life cycle, probably one generation a year.
