Diagnosis

Characteristics of Avibrissina include: 1. Body size 7 – 8mm; 2. Proboscis about same length as subcranial cavity; 3. Palpi very short.

Distribution in NZ


North Island: BP, TO, WN. South Island: NN, FD, MB, MK, WD.

Biology and Hosts

An undescribed Avibrissina sp. has been reared from beetle larva of a Pyronota sp. (Scarabaeidae). Avibrissina brevipalpis has been reared from Pyronota inconstans Brookes
