Characteristics of Plagiomyia include: 1. Body size 4 – 8mm; 2. Last section of vein CuA1 half as long as or longer than penultimate section shared with Calcager, Calcageria, and Uclesiella; but differs by; 3. Vein R1 without dorsal setae; 4. Cell r4+5 open; 5. 3rd and 4th abdominal segment without discal setae.Distribution in NZ
North Island: AK, BP, CL, ND, TK, TO, WI, WN; South Island: BR, CO, DN, FD, MB, MC, NN, OL, SD, SI, SL, WD.; Chatham Islands.
