Coquillettidia (Austromansonia) tenuipalpis (Edwards, 1924)

The subgenus Austromansonia, which was created for Coquillettidia tenuipalpis, is thought to be the most primitive and generalised group of Coquillettidia, and possibly of the whole tribe Mansoniini (Belkin 1968).

Taxonomic Position
Coquillettidia tenuipalpis is the only species in the group Tenuipalpis in the endemic subgenus Austromansonia (Belkin 1962).

Characteristic Features
Coquellittidia tenuipalpis is readily distinguished from iracunda by its larger size, and on the lower surface of the wing, the base of the subcosta has a large patch of setae (Belkin 1968).
