Landcare-Research -Manaaki Whenua

Futures

Manaaki Whenua has been involved in many projects exploring Māori futures and aspirations. Of particular relevance is Landcare Research’s involvement in the FRST programme Iwi Futures 2008–2011 led and managed by Dr Tanira Kingi of Massey University (now AgResearch). The programme’s aim was to develop a nationally applicable Māori land and resource decision-support framework specifically designed for Māori landowners, Māori land organisations and clusters of organisations throughout New Zealand. It was envisaged that adoption of such a framework with modules and tools, would facilitate the advancement of Māori to improve the economic potential of their collectively-owned land-based resources, in a manner consistent with their cultural values.  Through this and other research listed below a large range of integrated modelling tools to explore futures and demonstrate scenario modelling have been developed.
