Potable water usage

Indicator details

Water use

  • Where possible, new building projects now include installation of water re-use and storage systems for grey-water. An example of this is at our new Beever Plant Pathogen Containment Facility at Auckland: ‘All rain water is captured in a separate tank which is used as a back-up to other two tanks. All the water used inside the building (showers, water plants, wash areas, except for the toilet and hand basin, as this is on the outside of the building) passes through a boiler unit before going to the sewer.’
  • Water harvesting is also occurring on the recently-built GHG Facility building in Lincoln.
  • The Hamilton rain water tank is used extensively for compound equipment wash down, car cleaning and vegetable watering.
  • Dunedin's rain water is captured in the fish pond
