Diagnostic features

Thalli in the shape of thin, reddish brown "leaves" (here in quotes because they lack the same structure and origin as a plant leaf), arranged in branching or forking patterns. Elongated cells form a "midrib" running along the length of each "leaf".

Typical habitats

Usually in coastal sites with some seawater intrusion
