Algal factsheet: Ammatoidea (Homoeotrichaceae)
Diagnostic features
Sheathed filaments, often widest near the middle and taper towards the ends, isopolar. Terminal cells usually appear colourless. Some constriction at the cross walls between cells. No heterocytes or akinetes.
Typical habitats
Found in both terrestrial and freshwater (clean water) habitats; known from the alpine zone, Antarctica, and the Chatham Islands.
