Diagnostic features
Shaped like orange segments in valve view. The raphe is approximately parallel with the short edge of the valve, and deflects towards the short edge at the cell poles (unlike in Cymbella, where it deflects the other way). Cells are often lined up in a mucilage tube. Chloroplasts are golden-brown.Typical habitats
