Algal factsheet: Eolimna (Naviculaceae)
Diagnostic features
Valves identical, both possessing a raphe (i.e. the genus is biraphid). Frustules oval in valve view, less than 20µm in length (very small), although a range of lengths may occur. Central area "bow tie" shaped. Chloroplasts golden brown, parietal, lying against the edges of the valve. May be difficult to distinguish from Sellaphora.
Typical habitats
The specimens photographed were from a lowland river
