Diagnostic features
Sheathed, tapering heteropolar blue-green filaments lacking heterocytes and akinetes. False branching rare. Sheath extends well beyond terminal cells, which are attenuated to colourless hair-like cells. Similar to Ammatoidea, but with heteropolarity.
