Contributor Daniel J. Bickel is originally frorn the United States, but has lived in Australia for 20 years. He holds a PhD in entomology from Cornell University. His position as a research scientist at the Australian Museum, Sydney, enables him to continue his studies on the systematics of Australasian Diptera (flies).
Dan has recently focused on studying the Sciapodinae, a subfamily of the Dolichopodidae, and has published revisions of the sciapodine faunas of both Australia and New Zealand.
