World Firsts for the Cook Islands
The Cook Islands are the focus of a 5-year biocontrol project, funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, aimed at bringing some of their most rampant weeds under control.
Science Fair Success
A secondary school student from Kerikeri scooped the 2016 Excellence Award at the Far North Science and Technology Fair for her study on one of the Brazilian beetles released in the region to control tradescantia (Tradescantia fluminensis).
Enabling Curious Minds to Join the War against Weeds
Last year a project conceived by Murray Dawson and Hugh Gourlay was awarded an Unlocking Curious Minds grant by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). These grants are aimed at better engaging New Zealanders with science and technology, especially those who have fewer opportunities to do so.
