Diagnostic features
Aupouriella mayfly nymphs are very delicate as the abdomen, legs and double gills are all slender. The abdomen has striking dark markings on a generally pale background.
Typical habitats
This recently discovered mayfly is only known from a North Cape stony coastal stream in an area of native bush, but it is possible Aupouriella occurs in other areas.
Feeding
Leptophlebiid mayflies feed by scraping diatom algae and other organic matter from stone surfaces.
Indicator value
Aupouriella is only known from a single stream flowing though an area of native bush, and native bush streams generally have good water quality. There are no tolerance values for this mayfly.
