Sustainable business
We develop and apply knowledge, tools and programmes to improve the sustainable practice of individual firms and industry sectors and provide credible verification of their sustainability performance.
Sustainable practice provides businesses with a competitive advantage for emerging export market requirements and increases business compliance with environmental legislation.
We examine the impacts, contraints and drivers for sustainable business, and develop tools for improved practices. Our research combines the disciplines of accounting, economics, ecotoxicology, lifecycle assessment/management, governance, strategic futuring and Maori cultural perspectives to provide a transdisciplinary approach to sustainable business practice
We work with a wide range of businesses and sectors to trial, evaluate, and refine our research and tools. To help businesses to identify tools and services tailored to New Zealand our researchers have put together a database of Environmental and Sustainability Tools for Business. Previous successful tools include carboNZero, an internationally recognised greenhouse gas certification scheme, and Enviro-Mark NZ, which certifies businesses environmental performance. Sustainable business provides NZ with enormous potential to address local and global environmental challenges and to create new economic opportunties for long-term value creation.
