Etymology

Dedicated to the New Zealand biologist V. J. Chapman.

Description

Linear-elliptical valves, 25-30 µm long and 8-10 µm broad. Straight raphe with terminal fissures and central nodules deflected in the same direction. Axial area lanceolate, central area a very broad transverse fascia. Transapical striae, 13-14 in 10 µm, radiate towards the middle of the valve, but convergent towards the apices.
