Facilitating engagement

Our project involves facilitating a collaborative process for improving bird monitoring and reporting in New Zealand.

Raising awareness and understanding

By encouraging dialogue, interactions and sharing among the different people involved in bird monitoring and reporting we can:

  • Raise awareness between the parties of different monitoring efforts and methods
  • Help them reach an understanding of the interests, needs, constraints and social contexts in which different parties operate.

Such dialogue helps build familiarity and understanding between the various parties, which is the basis for building trust in a bird monitoring and reporting system.

Our work also involves reflecting together on the research and its findings as it progresses, and devising solutions to the challenges identified.

Why focus groups and workshops?

The focus groups held in between June and September in 2014 were designed to canvass, through dialogue, the range of views among stakeholders about various aspects of bird monitoring and reporting in New Zealand.
