Kererū

Kererū help us maintain New Zealand's native forests. They are not only one of the few bird species that feed on large fruits from native trees but they also travel large distances dispersing the digested seeds from those fruits as they go.

Other names: native pigeon, New Zealand pigeon, wood pigeon, kereru, kokopa, kūkū, kūkupa, parea

Kererū are most likely to be found in the Northwestern regions of the South Island. They are least likely to be seen in Marlborough and Canterbury.
