Detection and surveillance research workshop
In September 2013, Landcare Research and Lincoln University jointly hosted a pest surveillance and detection research workshop. It proved a highly popular event, with more than 80 participants from more than 20 organisations including councils, universities, community conservation groups, DOC and other land managers. The workshop was a followup to the Pest Summit held last by DOC year and was focussed on research challenges leading into the National Science Challenges.
Topics of interest were grouped around four themes:
- Eradication and suppression
- Detection theory
- High-tech detection technologies
- Stakeholder needs and citizen science
A diverse range of presenters covered a selection of topics within each of the themes. Then there were break out discussions and prioritisation of the research ideas.
